Our kitschy travels originated with the freebie opportunity from our Wild Adventure passes (damn, I just can’t pass up a freebie). In our search of that ever obscure life changing adventure, we braved Cypress Gardens elements twice. Sadly, twice was enough. |
The year was 2005 - Let the flashback begin....
| We originally planned to see Lonestar on their April 23, 2005 concert. We all loaded up (in the then newly acquired Disneynuts travel van) and set off for our first adventure. We (not having a good map) trekked down to the middle of nowhere (there were NO signs telling you to turn – due to the previous hurricane wind theft) - only to spend an entire day dealing freakish thunderstorms with spotted tornados (and Donald Duck fits). | ![]() |

Our adventure finalized about 8 hours later, about 20 miles down the road (going home) eating dinner at Sonic, with no concert & only 1 ride done. To CG's credit, it is a pretty cool ride; one of the only double decker merry go rounds I’ve ever seen. ON the carousel note… Becky (you lost & wayward amusement park haunt), we howl out for your name at every one of our kitschy road side adventures - but alas, in all of our travels, we’ve not been able to unearth you either. But, the cast members at Disneynuts promise to keep searching for you– maybe one day your restless spirit will find its way home. |
| Not to be discouraged and well, we’re (at least I am) stubborn, I vowed that we would come back and ATLEAST one more time to ride the Sunshine Sky Adventure. (Borrowed from the CG website: A truly unique ride and one of the originals retained from the gardens, the Sunshine Sky Adventure offers a stunning view of not only Cypress Gardens, but up to 17 miles of the surrounding area! Rising 16 stories in the air, the platform slowly revolves 360 degrees, creating an unparalleled view and stunning photographic opportunities. Sunshine Sky Adventure is still the only panoramic tower in North & South America and one of three in the entire world.) | ![]() |

It took several more months before I could convince everyone that we NEEDED to do this again. The pot was sweetened with the free Dwight Yoakam concert. Not to be disappointed, this trip was just as eventful as the first one, from the crappy Pirate show (OMG, how can pirates be bad?? 5 mins into the show and you'll know) that doused the BRAND new camcorder with water cannons, FINALLY getting to see the famous water skiing shows, to a couple more melt downs. We came out of the experience, kitschy richer and DONE with this park. |
Maybe one day our children will look back and think….
WOW, that was so
cool; I need to take my kids to see that too. |
Well, after two torturous trips, one can only hope.
